A human being is a part of the whole called by us
‘universe’
"A human being is a part of a whole,
called by us ‘universe’, a part limited in time and
space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something
separated from the rest… a kind of optical delusion of his
consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting
us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest
to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by
widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and
the whole of nature in its beauty.”

All aspects of my surroundings are part of a gigantic cosmic dance.
[…] “I was sitting by the sea looking at
the waves rolling in on the beach, simultaneous concentrating on my
breathing. Suddenly I became aware of all aspects of my surroundings
being part of a gigantic cosmic dance.
Being a physicist, I knew,
that the sand, the stones, the water and air consists of vibrating
molecules and atoms, and these in turn consists of particles
interacting with each other, by creating and destroying other
particles. I also knew, that earth’ atmosphere constantly is
bombarded by waves of cosmic radiation, high-energetic particles that
is exposed to enumerable collisions on their journey through the
earth atmosphere.
All this was well known to me from my research
as a high energy physicist, but until this moment I had only
experienced it through graphs, models, diagrams and mathematical
theories.
While sitting there on the beach, my previous
experiences became alive, I “saw” energy cascading down
here from the outer space, with the particles created and destroyed
in rhythmical pulsating. I “saw” the atoms in the basic
elements and the atoms in my own body as participants in this cosmic
dance of the energies. I felt its rhythm and “heard” the
sound it made, and in that instant I knew that this was Shivas dance
– the god of dancing, that the Hindu worship”.

“Most stardust is made of tiny silicate grains, much like dust from rocks on earth. Away from city lights, you can see the dust as a dark band across the Milky Way. This dust comes from dying and exploded stars. Scientists think stars form when these dust clouds collapse and that some of this dust became trapped inside asteroids and comets when our own sun formed. […]”

Stardust probably brought the microscopic building
blocks of life to Earth
Edited from article in ‘The Age’
June 18, 2004
“All life on this planet had its origins in
stardust which probably brought the microscopic building blocks of
life through traceless space to Earth billions of years ago,
according to a team of German physicists.
The researchers at the
Darmstadt research laboratory of Dr Franz R Krueger and the Max
Planck Institute for Aeronomics in Katlengurg-Lindau said they had
found traces of molecular enzymes in the tail of a comet encountered
by the American Stardust probe.
The NASA probe has an on-board
Cometary and Interstellar Dust Analyser (CIDA), a mass spectrometer
that has been collecting information from interstellar dust particles
since 1999. The scientists said they found evidence of a co-enzyme
similar to pyrroloquinoline-quinone (PQQ) that is a pre-requisite for
life as we know it.
"PQQ-like co-enzymes occur in all life
forms aside from archaeobacteria," said Jochen Kissel of the
Robert Koch Institute. "It is a vital link in the chain of life
on Earth."
Writing in the journal Science, co-researcher
Krueger, head of a private physics lab in Darmstadt, said he is
convinced that it was the arrival of PQQ-laden stardust on Earth 3.6
billion years ago that spawned life on the otherwise lifeless planet.
For years scientists were puzzled by the sudden appearance of PQQ
co-enzymes. The question was where the genetic make-up of PQQ
co-enzymes, so while necessary for life, came from if the Earth had
no life able to produce such a genetic makeup.
"It is the
age-old question of which came first, the chicken or the egg,"
Krueger said. "The enzymes that start the process can only come
into existence themselves if a genetic code already exists."
Combined with water and other factors, the co-enzymes could have
spawned life in the early seas of Earth. "The PQQ-like
co-enzymes themselves come into being with the aid of cosmic rays
from existing molecules on the surface of mineral particles,"
Kissel said. Krueger is part of the team that developed the
spectrometer aboard the NASA probe which gathers dust particles
streaking through space at the speed of 20 kilometres per second. "To
this day about 4,000 tons of interstellar dust falls to Earth each
year," Krueger said, "most of it vaporising in the
atmosphere."

Maybe it was not ‘just’ the building blocks we have from space, maybe life as such originated in space – this theory is called Panspermia
Panspermia
20 Jan 2005.
“Life is
ubiquitous throughout the universe. Life on our planet earth most
likely is the result of a panspermic event…. Panspermia is how life
is spread throughout the universe. These words come from J. Craig
Venter’s answer to the question, "What do you believe is true
even though you cannot prove it?" Venter was the president of
Celera Genomics, who sequenced the human genome using the whole
genome shotgun technique. The completed sequence of the human genome
was first published simultaneously by his team and an international
consortium in February 2001. In 2003, Venter launched a global
expedition to obtain and study microbes from environments ranging
from the world’s oceans to urban centers.”

Panspermia theoretically possible, say scientists
2000-01-13 | SCIENCE One of the goals of astrobiology
is to understand how life on Earth began. Astrobiologists are
assessing a number of ideas, including the possibility that life
originated elsewhere and migrated to Earth. This hypothetical process
is known as panspermia.
[…], according to news reports from
Yahoo!/Reuters and Yahoo!/AP a team of scientists has calculated that
5 trillion Martian rocks have arrived on Earth. They estimate that
tons of material must have fallen on Earth, although only a few
Martian meteorites have been found. The researchers have also
calculated the heat, radiation, pressure and acceleration that a
microbe would have to survive as it travelled through space and
entered the Earth’s atmosphere. They conclude that at least two
hardy species of Earth bacteria, Bacillus subtilisand Deinococcus
radiodurans (nicknamed "Conan the Bacterium") could
withstand the forces. Extremophiles— organisms that endure extremely
harsh environments — are a major focus of astrobiology. The
scientists conclude that single-celled organisms from Mars could
theoretically have seeded the Earth with life, or vice versa.
However, their calculations suggest that the transfer of microbes
from one solar system to another is unlikely. If Earth life
originated on another planet, it nevertheless began somewhere within
our own solar system.

If we not only owe our building blocks to cosmos, but if in fact life itself was spread from somewhere in cosmos to us, it follows that there must be (or at the very least have been) life elsewhere in the universe

Astrology and astronomy: The ancients did not
differentiate between astronomy and astrology, because there was no
difference!
In our way of understanding “science”,
science only came into existence recently. The task until then was
not to measure and experimented with the world outside of and
independent of the scientist. Quantum physics is beginning to edge
scientist back towards the same area, it is for example now proven
that it is not possible to conduct an experiment, without affecting
the outcome of that experiment.
The influence from cosmos, star
signs and planets is a cornerstone we will elaborate over the year,
connecting science, archetypes, myths, hands-on healing,
contemplations and meditation. Working with the forces from cosmos
leads to a obvious need to measure or at least come in tune with
their rhythm, and since we have lost previous cultures ability to
feel these influences directly, we are bound to rely on external
measurements and systems of enough accuracy to accurately describes
where star signs and planets in fact are at given moments. These
measurements are very accurate in modern astronomy, and to some
degree in Jyotish , the Indian astrology, and to a lesser degree to
Western astrology. To understand this difference, we need to see how
the “clockwork” works
The planets all have their orbit almost in the same angel – the eclipse
http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/lessons/indiv/beth/beth_intro.html
“While making its daily rotations around its axis, the Earth
is also making yearly revolutions as it orbits around the Sun.
The
Earth travels in space as it revolves about the Sun in a planar orbit
that is approximately circular. This motion of the Earth makes the
Sun appear as if it is moving eastward in the course of a year
against the background of the zodiac constellations. This apparent
motion of the Sun is caused by our changing point of view or viewing
direction as we observe from the surface of the Earth as it moves in
its orbit. The path in the sky defined by this apparent motion of the
Sun (which is actually the plane of the Earth’s revolution about the
Sun) is called

The Plane of the Ecliptic . It turns out that most of the other planets in the solar system also revolve around the Sun in orbits that lie approximately along the same Ecliptic plane. […] It turns out that one of the nine planets does not orbit the Sun in plan that lies close to the Ecliptic, and this is Pluto, the farthest planet from the Sun. Pluto’s orbit lies about 17.5 degrees out of the Plane of the Ecliptic. […]”
http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/lessons/indiv/beth/beth_intro.html
From ancient times the sky has been divided up in groups of stars that were given names, relating to myths and legends. The most important of these are the 12 star signs situated in the zodiac.

Earth’s Precession: ”As Earth spins on its axis, its axis wobbles (precesses) very slowly over a period of about 23,000 to 26,000 years. As this occurs, the pole of the Earth inscribes an arc in the heavens called the precessional arc. Earth’s pole aligns with different pole stars throughout the precessional period. Polaris is Earth’s current north-pole star.
Because Earth’s axis is tilted at about 23° in its orbit around the sun, Earth’s equatorial plane is tilted with respect to the ecliptic plane, the plane created by Earth’s orbit. These two intersecting planes create an intersecting line called the vernal axis. Looking from Earth, we see one point along this axis lying in one direction in the ecliptic, and the other lying in the opposite direction. One point is the location in the ecliptic where the sun resides on the spring equinox. This location is the vernal point (VP). The other point is the location where the sun resides on the autumnal equinox. This is the anti-vernal point.”
Edited from http://www.lunarplanner.com/siderealastrology.html
Western astrology is mainly using the Tropical zodiac. Oriental astrology or Jyotish, is always using the Sidereal zodiac. […] “The location of the vernal point in the sidereal zodiac defines the current zodiacal age. The sidereal zodiac is a set of signs, much like the tropical signs, except they do not move in the ecliptic. The sidereal signs are aligned with their corresponding constellations. The tropical zodiak aligned with the fixed sidereal zodiac around 200 A.D. but has since drifted 25°; i.e. this was when zero degrees tropical Aries aligned with 0° sidereal Aries. The vernal point currently resides at 5° sidereal Pisces as it slowly moves toward the sidereal sign of Aquarius—thus we are completing the age of Pisces. […]

The astronomer and astrophycisist at Plymuth University in UK, Sir Percy Seymour has in the interview “The Magus of Magnetism” (Available on The Millennium Group website: http://tmgnow.com/repository/solar/percyseymour1.htm) , and in his book “The Scientific basis of Astrology”, started a fascinating bridge-building between modern science astrology and myth.
Sir Percy Seymour sums it up this way:
Planets effect the solar cycle in specific ways.
The solar cycle effects the geomagnetic field.
The geomagnetic field affects life on Earth in certain observed ways.
Specifically, many species, including man, can be influenced by particular states of the geomagnetic field.
The particular influences appear to correlate with the planetary positions.
I propose that the behavior of the fetus at the time of birth is linked to the cycles within the geomagnetic field, which in turn are influenced by the solar cycle and positions of the planets. Resonance is the phenomenon by which the fetus is phase locked to specific cycles.
Percy Seymour: “The Scientific basis of Astrology,” p 264

“The Nerve Message […] The plasma membrane of neurons, like all other cells, has an unequal distribution of ions and electrical charges between the two sides of the membrane. The outside of the membrane has a positive charge, inside has a negative charge. This charge difference is a resting potential and is measured in millivolts.”

“Seymour explains, "We know our nervous system is
actually electric currents. The fluctuations of the geomagnetic field
cause changes in the neuro-network. What I am saying is that the
relative position of the Sun, Earth and other planets is causing a
very complex tune to be played on the magnetic field of Earth. We are
genetically tuned not to receive the whole symphony but to respond to
a certain melody. We are genetically tuned to respond to the magnetic
tunes of the Moon, of Mars, of Saturn and so on. It also tells us how
we might respond in future life to certain positions of the planets.
They might predispose us in certain ways when we have the tunes that
we first heard in the womb."

Myth as a projection of the collective unconscious
“Jung laid bare the connection between psychology,
spirituality and mythical symbolism. Through comprehension of the
archetypical world we can begin to understand the way the spiritual
energy manifests itself through humanity. The instincts and
archetypes together form the “collective unconscious”.
“The
supreme pattern and personalities in archetypes are shaped by the
collective human transcendent experience. They have existed from the
earliest record of human history.”
Jung: “The
Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious”
“The collective unconscious […] appears to consist of
mythological images […]. In fact, the whole of mythology could
be taken as a sort of projection of the collective unconscious.
We
can see this clearly if we look at the heavenly constellations, whose
originally chaotic form were organised through the projection of
images […]. These influences are unconscious introspective
perceptions of the activity of the collective unconscious.”
C. G. Jung (Collected Works, vol* Para 325)
With the story of the zodiac and the significance of the names of
the various stars found in the different constellations, we should be
able to retrace the history of man
“Nearly all the mythology
of Greece and Rome may be traced in star groups. Nearly every
religion in the world shows traces of astrological influences and
nearly all the races of the earth grouped the stars into
constellations and often saw figures that were often amazingly
similar to others of distant cultures. Even if the figures are not
similar it is amazing how the variations harmonize so that an
astrologer could read similar symbology into them. […] Some
writers are of the opinion that the original 29 letters of the Hebrew
alphabet were derived from groups of stars and that the starry
handwriting on the walls of the heavens referred to words spelt out,
with fixed stars for consonants and the planets or luminaries for
vowels. These coming into ever different combinations, spelt words
which, when properly read, foretold future events. The fixed stars
are thought of as channeled through and having affinity with the
planets and here I will quote from Giorgio de Santillana chapter XI
of Hamlet’s Mill, who explains, with an example, how this happens:
"The essence of true myth is to masquerade behind seemingly
objective and everyday details borrowed from known circumstances. The
gods of the ancients are really stars, the forces reside in the
starry heavens and all the stories, characters and adventures
narrated by mythology concentrate on the active powers among the
stars which are the planets. A prodigious assignment it may seem for
those few planets to account for all those stories and also to run
the affairs of the whole universe. […].”

Oriental astronomy
Oriental astronomy teaches a cyclic or rather spiralic model of
human development, the closer we are to our sun’s dual, the
higher is our civilisation, the further away we are, the lower is our
civilisation. Meaning that there will be a constant rise and fall of
civilisations and of the general ethical and intellectual standars of
man.
The Cyclic – or in a sense spiralic movement of the
earth, around the sun, and together with the sun, in an elliptic
trajectory around the dual – which we believe to be Sirius,
(meaning that the earth will be closer or further away from this dual
as time goes) with one revolution in the spiral lasting 24.000 years,
translates itself, according to Indian ancient wisdom, to different
levels of development for the human race living in that period.
In
other words, in any given time, the general population will have a
level of development corresponding to the Yuga, the age the earth is
in at that particular time, meaning that we have a rise and fall of
civilisations happening, with a full circle lasting 24.000 years.

The illustration is from article in SRF magazine winter 1999 by Vishvas Gaitonde

“We learn from Oriental
Astronomy that moons revolve round their planets, and planets turning
on their axis revolve with their moons round the sun; and the sun,
with its planets and their moons, takes some star for its dual and
revolves round it in about 24.000 years. The sun also has another
motion by which it revolves round a grand centre called Vishnunabhi,
which is the seat of the universal power. Brahma, the universal

Dharma – Right Living

405 years above the utmost bottom– 11.600 years from the

“Brahma regulates dharma, the mental virtue of the
internal world.
“When the sun in its revolution round its
dual [Sirius, our adition] comes to the place nearest to this grand
centre, the seat of Brahma […], dharma, the mental virtue,
becomes so much developed that man can easily comprehend all, even
the mysteries of Spirit.
[…] After 12.000 years, when the
sun goes to the place in its orbit which is farthest from Brahma, the
grand centre […], dharma, the mental virtue, comes to such a
reduced state that man cannot grasp anything beyond the gross
material creation.
Again, in the same manner, when the sun in its
course of revolution begins to advance toward the place nearest to
the grand centre, dharma, the mental virtue, begins to develop; this
growth is gradually completed in another 12.000 years.
Each of
these periods of 12.000 years brings a complete change, both
externally in the material world, and internally in the intellectual
or electric world, […] Thus, in a period of 24.000 years, the
sun completes the revolution around its dual and finishes one [.]
cycle consisting of 12.000 years in an ascending arc and 12.000 years
in a descending arc.”

Vibration pattern as a result of a loudspeaker with Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D minor, 1st movement, bar 30, before start of andante placed under a glass of water .
Sound affects physical matter
Through the
pioneering work of Ernst Chladni (1756 - 1829) and Dr. Hans Jenny, it
has been shown that sound affects physical matter. Chladni drew a
violin bow across the edge of metal plates which were sprinkled with
fine sand. Different rates (frequencies) produced certain geometrical
patterns.
With more modern technology, the Swiss Dr Hans Jenny
investigated what happens when sand, fungal spores, dust, water,
etc., are vibrated by sound waves. He used crystal oscillators which
can maintain an exact frequency, and invented a machine called the
tonoscope, which allowed him to view the result of changing the sound
in any way.
Using the tonoscope he was able to see the physical
image, or "dimension" of a human vowel or tone. He called
this area of research cymatics, and published his results in the
bi-lingual 2 volume set Kymatik - Wellen und Schwingungen mit ihrer
Struktur und Dynamik / Cymatics - The Structure and Dynamics of Waves
and Vibrations. (Recently republished in one volume with many colour
illustrations - see resources).
Amongst his more amazing findings was the discovery that when the ancient vowels of Hebrew and Sanskrit were pronounced, the shape produced on the tonoscope was that of the written symbols for those vowels. With modern languages there was no such effect. Also, when AUM is sounded the shape produced is that of the ancient written symbol for AUM (the Sri Yandra). This suggests that the ancients knew something! Perhaps when sounding in meditation, the vibration created the form in their minds. Hebrew, Sanskrit, Egyptian and Tibetan are generally considered to be "sacred" languages.
http://www.soundintentions.com/details/cymatics.htm
In the beginning was the Word

How chanting the vowel A affect a sound plate
The suggestion from these findings is that merely by sounding
sacred texts, by singing sacred vowels, we can resonate our cells
back into tune - back into shape, restoring our cells and energies to
a state of coherence, in which our energies are synchronised with
those of God / Universe / Source.
He noted that many structures
(such as cell shapes) found in nature under the microscope, were very
similar in shape to structures produced in the sand or dust whilst
under the influence of a vibration. Perhaps there is an "underlying
vibration" in nature, which vibrates atoms into forming a
visible shape - but the vibration is the reality, not the shape
procuced. This finding is very much in tune with the ideas expressed
centuries ago in the Bhagavad Gita - that all we see is illusion.
Jenny also found that water could be shaped and even exhibited an
antigravity effect when vibrated by sound. Considering that our
bodies are mostly water, through sound we are able to restructure the
cells of our bodies.

Black Hole Sound Waves
Sound waves 57 octaves lower than middle-C are rumbling away from a super massive black hole in the Perseus cluster.

“Sept. 9, 2003: Astronomers using NASA’s Chandra X-ray
Observatory have found, for the first time, sound waves from a
supermassive black hole. The "note" is the deepest ever
detected from any object in our Universe. The tremendous amounts of
energy carried by these sound waves may solve a long-standing problem
in astrophysics.
The black hole resides in the Perseus cluster of
galaxies located 250 million light years from Earth. In 2002,
astronomers obtained a deep Chandra observation that shows ripples in
the gas filling the cluster. These ripples are evidence for sound
waves that have traveled hundreds of thousands of light years away
from the cluster’s central black hole.
Right: The Perseus cluster of galaxies. Each fuzzy object is a
galaxy. Unseen is a vast cloud of hot gas filling the cluster. Near
the centre of it all lies a super massive black hole. Earlier
observations had revealed the prodigious amounts of light and heat
created by black holes. "Now we have detected their sound, too,"
says Andrew Fabian of the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge,
England, and the leader of the study.
In musical terms, the pitch
of the sound generated by the black hole translates into the note of
B flat. But, a human would have no chance of hearing this cosmic
performance because the note is 57 octaves lower than middle-C. For
comparison, a typical piano contains only about seven octaves. At a
frequency over a million billion times deeper than the limits of
human hearing, this is the deepest note ever detected from an object
in the Universe.
"The Perseus sound waves are much more than just an interesting form of black hole acoustics," says Steve Allen, also of the Institute of Astronomy and a co-investigator in the research. "These sound waves may be the key in figuring out how galaxy clusters, the largest structures in the Universe, grow."

Above: Peering into the heart of the Perseus Cluster (left), the
Chandra X-ray Observatory detected sound waves rippling through the
gas (right). [more] […]
A tremendous amount of energy is needed
to generate the cavities, as much as the combined energy from 100
million supernovas. Much of this energy is carried by the sound waves
and should dissipate in the cluster gas, keeping the gas warm and
possibly preventing a cooling flow. If so, the B-flat pitch of the
sound wave, 57 octaves below middle-C, would have remained roughly
constant for about 2.5 billion years.
Perseus is the brightest
cluster of galaxies in X-rays, and therefore was a perfect Chandra
target for finding sound waves rippling through the hot cluster gas.
Other clusters show X-ray cavities, and future Chandra observations
may yet detect sound waves in those clusters, too.”

Morphic Resonance
The universe is more like an organism than a machine. […]
“I am going to discuss the concept of collective memory as a
background for understanding Jung’s concept of the collective
unconscious. The collective unconscious only makes sense in the
context of some notion of collective memory. This then takes us into
a very wide-ranging examination of the nature and principle of
memory-not just in human beings and not just in the animal kingdom;
not even just in the realm of life-but in the universe as a whole.
Such an encompassing perspective is part of a very profound paradigm
shift that is taking place in science: the shift from the mechanistic
to an evolutionary and wholistic world view.
[…] The
alternative is that the universe is more like an organism than a
machine. […]. With this organic alternative, it might make
sense to think of the laws of nature as more like habits; perhaps the
laws of nature are habits of the universe, and perhaps the universe
has an in-built memory.
The mystery of mind
The approach I am putting
forward is very similar to Jung’s idea of the collective unconscious.
The main difference is that Jung’s idea was applied primarily to
human experience and human collective memory. What I am suggesting is
that a very similar principle operates throughout the entire
universe, not just in human beings. If the kind of radical paradigm
shift I am talking about goes on within biology-if the hypothesis of
morphic resonance is even approximately correct-then Jung’s idea of
the collective unconscious would become a mainstream idea:
Morphogenic fields and the concept of the collective unconscious
would completely change the context of modern psychology”

His different moods, inclinations, affairs, successes and failures, and all conditions of life depend upon a certain activity of vibration, whether these be thoughts, emotions, or feelings

“Every thought creates an accompanying vibration a vibratory energy that tends to materialize for good or for ill.”

Cosmos can be seen as an interlocking series of lives or
consciousness centres
“The concept of cosmos seen as an
interlocking series of lives or consciousness centres can be extended
to the earth, which is also formed of individual lives, such as the
minerals, vegetables, animals and humans. Here it is easier to see
the individuality of the various subordinate beings than it is to
detect the impress of the earth’s magnetism or vibrational identity
upon them. […] Scientists are only beginning to discover the
energic or magnetic relations between the planet as a whole and all
its parts.
Expanding our perspective further, the earth can be
viewed as an organ within the solar system. […]”

Multiple Choice questions for Week 7
Cosmos and Us
Multiple Choice Answer 1: True / False (Cross out the wrong answer): Science tell us that life originated in the sea or maybe in clay in freshwater, but that we originate on some distant planet is unscientific nonsense.
Multiple Choice Answer 2: True / False (Cross out the wrong answer): Astronomy and astrology is vastly different - the scientific study of the heavenly bodies, on one side and the attempt to create a means for fortune-telling on the other.
Multiple Choice Answer 3: True / False (Cross out the wrong answer): It is today measurable with scientific instruments how astronomical objects affect the earth and man in ways that vary with their position relative to earth. The principle behind astrology is thus proven to be scientific facts, (However some ways of using these principle that today are current have a long way to go before they are scientific).
Multiple Choice Answer 4: True / False (Cross out the wrong answer): Sound is matter vibrating, so in that sense sound affect matter, it has nothing to do with formation etc.
