The Kundalini Snake
The snake is a mesmerising and deadly reptile. The crawling snake traditionally symbolises passions, lust, cunningness, even the devil himself.
- Our mind is such that we only know what we want to know. And when we don`t want to know, if our mind is not receptive to truth, the light “falls” and becomes deception and delusion – the classical characteristics for the devil, or snake. At the same time the snake is a powerful symbol of transformation. The awakened kundalini ascending from the grey, sterile earth, the mind, oscillates between appearing as an erect cobra and a flame of fire.
When truth is acknowledged a sudden change, a dimensional shift, happens. An explosion of rainbow colours from indigo towards red happens at the base of the spine. The fiery snake-like energy begins to ascend inside the spine, burning out all delusions and purifying everything on its way. The myriads of small coloured squares, “pixels”, surrounding the snake corresponds to the colours of the chakras and their different levels of consciousness. The ”pixels” symbolises the manifold of life which we need to experience along the way in order to transform it. Every time a higher level of truth is reached the energy becomes more potent.
Symbolically speaking, the body of the snake represents movement, “becoming”. Fire and becoming are projections in time. Behind time is timelessness. This cannot be explained in words, it can only be experienced in deep meditation.
The body of the raised copra snake reflects the consciousness of “becoming” and the head and the eyes is the blissful ultimate state of timelessness, “beingness”, when movement has disappeared and everything is contained. Its essence is truth which is honoured with the golden crown on its head.
Kundalini projected out is samsara, the illusory everyday world with all its temptations, kundalini not projected is light unhindered. Arriving at the snakes` head, there is no more “becoming”, everything is realised as Divine light.
Such a kundalini process happens rarely and is far beyond the reach and control of the ego. On the contrary – kundalini is a killer of the ego, it means ego death! It is a radical cleansing process of anything unreal we hold on to – demanding, frightening and blissful at the same time. It happens only when the time is right and by the grace of God.
The following guided contemplation is connected to the picture:
Contemplate the statement “from the unreal to the real” (What that means to you, what it does to you etc.) while you are looking at the snake with a relaxed gaze. Imagine that the large white third eye of the snake is your own third eye in your forehead, and that the body of the snake is your spine.
You can continue to the next step: place the sterile grey earth with the erected snake in your mind where you feel that you are most unreal.
